Here this living master provides one-to-one virtual training for aspiring woodcarvers, as he carves and explains his techniques for producing a finished piece. The disk includes plan drawings, still photographs and 80 minutes of detailed video instruction.

Ian guides the viewer, step by step, through the complexities of carving a beautiful full female figure. He recommends a fairly plain timber for this work, such as limewood/basswood, so that the grain of the wood will not dominate the shape of the piece.
