Achieve complete evacuation of air around material inside vacuum bags.Use breather fabric over the top of the piece being laminated to ensure complete air flow over the entire part. Typically, when drawing a vacuum, the tendency of the bag is to seal around the edge of the part first which reduces or stops the air flow over the entire surface of the part. The result is that you can have less pressure in the center of the part than around the edges; this can force the adhesive toward the center of the part, causing the part to not be totally flat or in a worst case, incomplete lamination of the center area. It is recommended to use a thin film of polyethylene between the part and the breather fabric to prevent the adhesive from contacting the breather fabric. It also helps keep your bag free of adhesive. If kept clean, the breather fabric is reusable.
